Big House 5k
Big House 5k
Big House 5K is a new running event for the regional Midwest area. The University of Michigan's rich athletics tradition began in 1865 and continues to this day, with the Wolverines claiming more than 50 national championships in 12 sports. Our students, faculty and staff also regularly participate in dozens of intramural, club sport and fitness activities.
Why the Martians? Click here for the illustrated story. Earth marathons have strange themes, with your flying pigs and your convoluted, NASA-calculated encounter projections. Our finest Martian philosophers and theologians are working tirelessly to compose our own (as you call it) "trash talk", which we will shower upon you most mercilessly once our planet's runners prove victorious in winning all the races and snagging all the prizes.
We also noticed the course map is now on your website. Using the MSA's (Martian Space Administration) spatial-relationship viewer, we see your course is free of dust and rock, perhaps a solid surface. It could be quite fast … interesting. Time will tell who ends up kicking whose …
The USATF certified course, is traffic free and fast. The Kids' Martian Marathon will encourage health and fitness to children, check out the Martian Kid's link. Hope to see all of you there!
Milford Easter Dash
Join us on April 19,2014 in Milford, MI for our 1st Annual Easter Dash 5k.10k. The race will benefit Community Sharing.
This race, now in it's 28th year, started before a single knobby bike tire rolled around Potowatami Trail.
"Potto", is a big bad loop of hilly kick your butt wilderness single track trail. Due to the fact that most Americans are comatose couch potato wimps, the 12,000 acres of Pinckney Recreation Area remains a wilderness, even though it's only a 55 minute drive from metro Detroit.
I do enjoy a solitary run on Potto but once a year it's fun to lace em' up and scamper through the woods with a thousand of my friends. It's a celebration of dirt, sweat and pain that renews my faith in humanity.
Come join us!

I must say, it was amazing that we were able to, through some clever modifications, make this course all downhill; even though it was the same course that was all downhill when run the other direction! OK, sure there were a few uphill parts added to provide additional training and exercise (at no extra cost), but most everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and we can all take heart in knowing that we had some fun while supporting our library, and our community!
The non-profit kite network is holding its third annual 5K Fun Run and Family Walk in Dexter at Hudson Mills Metropark on May 17th. The kite network is an all-volunteer organization that provides personal, peer-to-peer grief counseling at no charge to residents of Washtenaw County who have lost a loved one. Come out and join us for a day of exercise and family fun while helping this important non-profit group raise awareness and funds for needed services in our community.
Join us for the 32nd Annual Traverse City Track Club Bayshore Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K to be held on Saturday May 24, 2014. The Half Marathon is currently full. There are still spots open in the Marathon and 10k. Once we fill a race we will not reopen registration. We do not have waiting lists for any of our races.
Bayshore is a flat, out and back course that runs along the shores of Grand Traverse Bay. Throughout the race, you have the crystal blue waters of Lake Michigan on one side and Traverse City’s famous cherry trees and orchards on the other. On your return trip, you step onto a track for the final quarter mile inside the stadium.

*There will NOT be an early start for any athlete registered for the Marathon or Half Marathon run. The early start time is for the Walker and Athlete with disabilities categories only.

Nothing beats Charlevoix in terms of natural beauty. Plus, Charlevoix has the look and feel of an 18th Century resort community.
The staging area for Charlevoix is the beautiful downtown area of Charlevoix on Michigan Ave. and W. Dixon, one—half block north of the drawbridge. All courses will take you through fantastic residential tree lined neighborhoods. The course is primarily flat, fast shaded most of the way, with a few inclines. The Marathon course has a few inclines and a hill at about the 7 mile marker. You can expect a very scenic race with some of the most breathtaking views available on any course. The Marathon and Half Marathon participants will run onto the bike trail.

Sleepy Hollow State Park has 2,600 acres of hardwood forest, prairie grassland and 410 acre Lake Ovid. The course circles Lake Ovid and several other small lakes in a beautiful lightly hiked and biked area of Michigan. Much of the trail is actually grass covered - the perfect running surface! Some steep hills but none too long. There are some low areas that may be muddy and wet, could you want it any other way??
Sleepy Hollow State Park is 20 minutes north of Lansing, about an hour and a half drive from Metro Detroit and well worth it. Consider camping Friday night!
